Biz Confessional…The Time I Was Most Scared – Ep#26

Mara Glazer

I’m a big believer that in order to succeed in business we need to stand in our truth when it comes to assessing what is AND is not working in our business.

Why is this? If we do not stand in our truth (especially when it comes to our business) we will never be able to have the knowledge we need to move forward and grow. If we do not stand in our truth, it is as we are lying to ourselves about where we are in the present time with our business, which will keep us from clearly seeing the steps that need to be taken to improve, build, and grow.

Makes perfect sense right?

Another thing that keeps many business owners stuck and not able to move forward and grow their biz is their resistance to transparency. This means being transparent to the world (and most importantly to your clients and customers) by putting yourself and your business out there. This is scary for a lot of business owners. Being transparent opens us up to judgment (and judgment can be uncomfortable).

So why must we be transparent? For years business owners have hidden their stories and lives, maybe out of fear that if they are too personal or if their customers get to know too much about them they wouldn’t want to do business with them anymore.

Are you resistant to being transparent?

The truth is that people buy from people they know, like, and trust. You may have even heard this saying before. Being transparent allows you to open your world to your customers and clients so they can better know, like, and trust you…and in many cases some of your customers may feel as if they can better relate to you.

(Clearly there are some things that should be kept private. There is a difference between putting yourself and your story out there and airing your dirty laundry!)

In this day and age with the way we NEED to do business (including social media, video marketing, or even going back to business 101 and using conversations to bring in customers and clients), we must open up and put ourselves out there, or when it comes to the success of our business, we will barely be able to tread water.

I know this is all scary. Hell, it’s not even easy for me! But, in order to take responsibility for our businesses, and be our businesses leader, we must stand in our truth and find comfort in some level of transparency.

Today, I ask that you let me guide the way for you.

Welcome to the bizzy buzz bizness confessional.

Starting today, on the next four episodes of the bizzy buzz TV, I am going to take you into my bizness confessional.

Today I confess the time in my business when I was most scared or fearful.

What I ask of you is that after watching this video, you confess in the comments. When was the time in your business you were most scared or fearful? Let me know in the comments below.

  1. The most scared moment for me was last summer when due to a mistake I made, my sales didn’t just plummet, they dissapeared.  For 35 days or so I thought this was the end of 13+ years of sacrifice, tears and dreams.  All gone!  It was right after that time that I launced an off line subscription product and while I am not where I would like to be with that at this moment, I am certainly  little further ahead and more secure of myself when it comes to launching my own products.  To date I am still financially catching up but at least the dreams and desires continue to go on forward as well.

My greatest fear in business started in 2008 when the capital markets failed.  I saw a lifetime of work in real estate development getting destroyed.  I lost my $1 million dream home.  I lost $10 million in assets.  My greatest fear was not so much losing, although that was scary.  My greatest fear was that I would never be able to regain what I lost because those opportunities are now closed.  The good news is the rebuilding has started.  But, the future looks different than the past.  That’s fine with me.
